I also grew up playing lots outdoors,plus in Vermont we got 2-3 channels for the most part-lame...but I can still quote legnthy bits of the Brady Bunch,Gilligan's island,cartoons,etc.
just because I'm critical of media today doesn't mean I haven't been warped by it...I've been programmed.
as you mention it has gotten even stronger in recent history.Television used to contain many fewer peak events/jump-cut/shifts in image...the editing has gotten more frenzied as our attention spans shorten and modern society moves at an everfasterpace-the modern brain needs more and faster triggers to help it register the consumer meme-consume the plasic bill of fare or people might think you're a loser...!

i like TV...
but when i was a kid id idnt grow up watching it- i grew up outside playing with a little TV here and there
i worry more about kids now.. where their whole lives have been built around shows they like..
