I Hate Social Media
There are different opinions about this, though if not on one side or the other, I see many people say that they are beginning to, or sort of, or almost- dislike social media. [b]Starting to[/b] hate it is the problem... Why have so few seen the elephant in the room? I see this different worlds site as a separate beast but that later- These social media sites, Facebook the prime example - truly take the life out of living. It is not only in how people spend their time but how all of this has altered our perceptions of everything in our reality and perhaps even reality itself. Not to mention those running the show at Famebook... I realize I am probably preaching to the choir, and perhaps a choir that is louder and better attuned to all this than I but still! Has anyone read the fine print? It isn't your typical Internet scary stuff, (because the 'net is a pretty scary place is it not?) You become their property. And in this joyful setup, people now look for validation and sense of worth in the tap or click of a button, and an endless feed, like being at the surface of consciousness but failing to dive in. Afraid to dive in... It is a population of "escapist artists" I suppose you might say... We no longer truly connect anymore, merely we just skim the surface and surf the mindless waves. It is a theme that is made pregnant by our haphazard attempts at advancement, technology is wonderful but look at what we are doing with it. Some see it as a sort of advanced web forum or a story or hiding behind the newspaper on the public transit in older (or other) times but these things can all be set aside... Not so with this, it breathes all its own.
If you close your eyes and listen close enough in the dark, away from the bustle of the world, you just might hear a quiet hum. It is the sound of a lost collective, trapped inside the pulse of their own destruction. We are holograms of our former selves, getting high off of the refractions from our own distorted lights. Not to idealize the past (it had its own set of problems). Where the mind ends and this superficial stream begins are now impossible to sever or tell any separation. If I seem to be overthinking it, try sitting in any public area for a few minutes or in a meeting or - anywhere really in a modern, industrialized society where there are people around or in groups. It is becoming a strange loop of human foolishness. I will have to write a bit more when I can think clearer. But just a tiny rant, I also must add there are so many things we could have accomplished by now if we weren't running in circles around x issue and arguing about it and starting useless wars (etc) while the world literally falls apart and ecosystems and entire species destroyed etc etc etc.
