I Was In Foster Care As a Child
Being In Foster Care.... I became a ward of the crown (what we call it here in Canada) when I was 8 and was out at 20. I moved out when I was 16 but the Children's Aid kept me on because I stayed in school. Instead of paying monthly to my foster family I get the cheques directly. Wasn't easy but i managed.I bounced around to a few homes for the first few years but stayed in the same place from 10 to when I moved out at 16. That last place the foster parents weren't bad people they were just in it for the cash. I was a tenant to them and that wasn't emotionally healthy for a 10 yr old. Reading some of the stories out here I see lots had it way worse then me so I'll keep this short. Being the foster kid in the neighborhood made it harder. My friends parents weren't comfortable having me around their "normal" kids. Just the stigma we all had to live with.
