I Want To Say Happy Anniversary

So today is my parents 35th or something anniversary. My mom is always so happy for this day though I never really understood why. My dad is a complete douchebag. He's been verbally abusive to her over the years and was physically abusive years ago. I knew if we weren't all grown up and could look out for our mom, he'd still be beating on her.

My sister had to text me to remind me that today was their anniversary. Now I'm sitting here wondering if it's even worth it playing the hypocrite and messaging them to say "happy anniversary." My dad and I haven't been on speaking terms for almost 2 months because of an argument over my mom. He was being rude, disrespectful and saying some really hurtful words so I intervened and we got into a verbal altercation that had to be parted. I have no love for that man and many people may think it's rather harsh but u haven't been through what I've been thru so I could careless really.

My mom is weak and let's him constantly disrespects her and then just forget about it but I can't. He's done some really bad things in the past and my mom stayed with him. Why? I've been searching for that answer my entire life.

I'll probably tell my mom happy anniversary because I know it'll make her happy and I've lived for my mother's happiness. I have soft spot for her.

So, happy anniversary mom

I guess it works for her. She seems proud of the fact. You can acknowledge just for her sake, it doesn't mean you condone anything he has done.

@lasergraph which is exactly what I've done over the years

Sadly it is too common to hear the story of lady’s staying with abusive men
