I Support The Police

Imagine being a cop in an urban war zone like Chicago, Baltimore, Memphis, Birmingham, or St. Louis -- it's the equivalent of being in a 24/7/365 battlefield, where a black riot or lawsuit is only one simple act of "upholding the law "away. Imagine having a wife and child at home and every time you go to work, in the back of your mind you always think it might be your last. You can't show emotion. You can't show any signs of weakness. You have to protect your life on a daily basis. Cops in urban areas of America are engaged in a futile attempt to maintain some form of civilization, a thankless job when one act of simply stopping spontaneous violence could either be fuel to start a riot or set-in motion the wheels of organized people to boycott the city and call for your suspension. The Chicago Police Department is one of many around the nation that now accepts that law enforcement officers, like America’s combat soldiers, suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. The black underclass in not just Chicago, but all across America is imploding in an orgy of violence. Brave police officers put their lives on the line day in and day out to perform the thankless job of rescuing civilization from the dehumanization conditions the poor community creates in the Second City. The police are soldiers on the streets of America, at the same time they are mommies, daddies, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles. They are people just like all of us. They just happen to be super brave people -- who will go help strangers in scary situations that most of the rest of us are too afraid to handle. The vast majority of police officers are dedicated, hard-working and conscientious. There are over 13,000 police officers in Chicago. The fact that a handful of officers have been in the news for misconduct should not taint the other 12,980. One bad apple does not mean they are all bad apples. We need to start understanding this mathematical fact. Not only for the sake of the police's reputation, but for the financial stake of our cities' monetary stability. Although 'wrongful convictions,' when they do happen, are terrible, so are wrongful police bankruptcies. It's a real travesty when an honest, hardworking police officer can be hit with punitive damages, which come out of their own pocket -- and a city can be hit with a huge multi-million dollar verdict, causing severe financial distress for the city. What if I say, all blacks are thugs. All blacks go out and sell drugs and pick up prostitutes. Is this true? Of course not! If this is not true and okay to say, why is it okay to say all cops are pigs? All cops murder blacks. All cops abuse their power. What is the difference? I am thankful for the police. I will always support the officers that put their lives on the line every day. Again, Imagine feeling like every kiss goodbye to your loved ones each day might be your last kiss. Imagine waking up every morning knowing there's a chance you might not come home that night.
