I have too. I was running down a street at about 05:45 one morning when a police car pulled up beside me and the window we wound down, the policeman in the passenger seat asked me what I was up to (in Norwegian). I replied that I had just left my car at a mechanic's workshop and had had to run back because I forgot to drop off the key and that I was now running to the station to catch the train to the airport. He said get in we'll take you there. I probably would have missed the train and possibly the flight otherwise.

@ninalanyon it’s nice to know that professional policing exists somewhere in the world.
It’s a real statement what should be the norm across the world.

@Briggett I think it is much more common than people think. The media only reports the things that go wrong and now that we have access to news from all over the world we get the impression that every member of the police is a psychopath.

I haven't had many interactions with the police but those that I have span five countries. I have been treated with the utmost courtesy by police officers in the US, UK, Poland, Norway, and Sweden. Of course none of these involved serious incidents but then I imagine that is also true of most people's interactions with the police.

@ninalanyon that’s great for you. I’ve visited and lived in quite a few countries and by this policing practices has to be desired.

@Briggett Not perfect in Norway either. Weapons training is notoriously inconsistent. Some years ago the police were attempting to apprehend a criminal and one policeman carelessly fired his hand gun. Internal walls in Norwegian houses are typically just centimetre thick boards on 50x50 mm studding. Even a hand gun round (H&K 9 mm I think) goes straight through it; in this case it also went through the criminal's nine year old daughter.
