Nine of the unionist states were slave holding states. The war was primarily about which level of government was to have the greatest power. Confederacy held that the states were the senior level of government. We have an example of that in Canada where the provinces are the senior level of government. The Federalist side held that the federal government was senior and should have the most power over the people. The federalists won.

[@Mountainlady1 Canada would stand a much better chance of surviving as a nation if American leftist organizations would stay in the US. lol The American democrats think Russia meddled in their election.
