I Appreciate Art And Artists

Many people decry the art displayed in the Tate Modern Gallery in London and, indeed, some of the work there is fairly unpenetrable to my uncultured eyes. However, some years ago, I found this display in the TM. It's an exploding shed. The artist blew his garden shed up, gathered together every single bit of wood, glass, garden tool, mower, plant pot etc, then suspended it in a room. It gives you the effect of being in the middle of an explosion without being torn apart by shrapnel. Very effective in my humble opinion.

I agree, Mister Curiosity. In my humble (but firm) opinion, much modern art, especially some of the highest-priced, critic-and-curator-approved stuff to be a vapid travesty, I'm always impressed when someone creates a well-wrought work born of a brilliant yet simple iinsight as this is; even though ugly in one sense, it's a beautifully inspired piece (pieces?)

I'm not usually one for art installations, but that seems to work, probably because it's a familiar image. These days we are very used to seeing explosions captured in a single frame.

It's really good. You can stand amongst the 'exploding debris'. I know...I get far too excited far too easily.

@Curiosity: Herbal-inspired "Hooray for Everything" mood perhaps? Wonderful for grooving on the arts if one is careful to avoid slipping on the invisible banana peels lying everywhere

@MissPriscillaPrim: I don't know about banana skins but some of the hanging bits of exploded shed could have had your eye out if you weren't careful.

Cool! I have a difficult time feeling modern or abstract art but I can still appreciate the vision and effort and talent that goes into it.
