I Think Its Sad

59 people died yesterday and 500 were injured. But yet people laugh and make jokes. Many of you have criticized America for our rights to own guns. Trust me I know we have a problem as well but to sit there when so many have died, when so many are grieving over lost loved ones you bash them for being there or you point your fingers and say we deserved it. NO one deserves to be gunned down. A little more compassion during this time is what's needed. And hopefully later we can fix what needs fixing.

It is such alot of people to be killed or hurt by one individuals actions outside of a war zone. That is what I found so shocking. And then he killed himself and no one knows why he did it.

I'm glad my county has basically no guns. There's a few but very difficult to get legally or illegally. But America has guns, it'd be impossible to take them back and it's how it is so I don't see it needs judgement or blame. Also it's far from funny. There is no way to prepare for a complete out of the blue thing like this either unless everyone was searched entering every building and firearms were not permitted in public buildings but still a lone person could walk along the road and shoot people. It's an impossible conundrum even if you took out people generally wanting guns and law abiding citizens willingly gave up their guns there'd be criminals and crazy people and terrorists who would keep them so it would effectively be worse. It's a terrible position to be in and if I was in a country with guns I know I'd have one so also I would be a hypocrite to judge.

That is my view.

we all grieve when a human life is lost ..no sane human could be rejoicing..at the same time people really dont understand the self destruct mode usa is on..thats all
littlepinklotus · 41-45, F
@romell I don't own a gun. I can understand people wanting to protect themselves and their homes. I can understand those who have weapons for hunting. However we have a problem. We have to many psychos running around that have access to them. So yes something needs to be done. But when that will change I am not sure. We are very divided on that issue.

@littlepinklotus difficult as its a political tool

Wait... did I almost hear someone say what I pointed out years ago, and still do, to this day...?

See... it's all about recognizing patterns. And one that no one seems to have caught onto...? You've got to go back in time, to the point that mass shootings began to appear. Can I give you a clue...? In 1981, under President Ronald Reagan, the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act repeals Carter’s community health legislation and establishes block grants for the states, ending the federal government’s role in providing services to the mentally ill. Federal mental-health spending decreases by 30 percent. In fact, let's cut the budgets so severely, that all the states CLOSE the state looney bins and... ready for it...? Pay rent for an apartment instead, and then send the certifiable out onto the streets, free range, with little to no support, into our neighborhoods, with our families, and our children.

Now, mind you, once this happened...? Those who were afflicted, but manageable...? WEREN'T BEING MANAGED ANYMORE. How'd this work out...? Dunno. Nobody left to track all this shit, because they closed the damn facilities down. Those who might have gotten help, might have sought help, couldn't, because either there was no medical coverage for it, or no one to direct them accordingly.

Point is, once this happened...? Unless you broke the law, or publicly had a meltdown noteworthy of assessment, YOUR CORI CHECK COMES BACK CLEAN.

So, my neighbor who thought I was Jesus for the simple facts that I had long hair, a beard, and lived upstairs... same guy who listened to the radio in the middle of the night BETWEEN stations, so that the aliens could communicate their messages to him...?

He gets a gun permit, because his record is clean.

Wanna fix the gun problem...? FIX THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM.

I think many of us do feel sadness and empathy for the victims and their family. But don't feel sorry for the US as a country. Many of us are shaking our heads in disbelief that the US still won't make the changes needed, and that so many of its citizens hold the right to bear arms over the right NOT to have this kind of event happen. What happened in Las Vegas was probably predictable, certainly preventable. It will happen again and again and again. The US continues to reap what it sows.

That is what was said after Sandy Hook.
littlepinklotus · 41-45, F
@ringtaster sadly its going to take a lot to move people to want to change. But I won't sit here and laugh and criticize when so many are in pain. Its not right and it doesn't help anyone.

It is a sad thing, but everyone has rights (in the USA) that should not be squashed because of these things...

No one has bashed you even if they have raised the spectre of guns in America. The world has more nuance than that, but they equally see a spade and maybe it wasn't the appropriate time, as I would have told anyone perceiving callously, why do we let such anger happen and how do we stop someone shooting openly on thousands?
littlepinklotus · 41-45, F
@SW-User oh there were a few bashing posts yesterday. Tighter gun control. It would be nice not to have them here all together but I know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

@littlepinklotus Yes, but sadly shootings like this (which become political) do open the door. I don't anticipate much, but there is a chance the American public will reject Trump and create a response that would never have happened under Obama.

It was a tragedy but nothing is free from a joke
littlepinklotus · 41-45, F
@Firespirit no its very sad those that make them. I hope they never loose someone like that and then have someone laugh in their face about it.
