Those of you who have been working from home, do you prefer it?

There is a lot of talk in the SF Bay Area about working from home becoming a permanent situation (or at least an option) for many tech workers. Tech workers are consequentially moving out of this overpriced area and purchasing vacation homes in rural areas from which they can work.

Is there value in work as an escape from home life? Do people really want to be at home all the time? Maybe you have a long commute and working from home has been a blessing.

I'm an instructor, so working from home has been a negative from me and I am looking forward to its end.
You definitely have a very interpersonally interactive job which is hard to easily transition to a remote/online format (depending upon age level & subject, but using "teacher" conveys somewhere in the K-12 range).

So conceding that, IBM did a study years ago where they found
that people working from home were much more productive than in the office. So apparently the two times

(office distractions) - (home distractions) > 0

But, of course, we are now overly-constrained, so being at home can seem like one is wearing an ankle bracelet, psychologically, for at least some group of people.

OTOH, draining the Bay Area might help make the housing a little more affordable...
@SW-User Where do you work and where did you attend college?

And congrats, the Bay Area is very nice (even if very overpriced).

@SomeMichGuy I did my undergrad at Stanford. I don't want to reveal where I work now since it's not too difficult to find me online. 😕 But I like where I am.

Hell yes I prefer it - my commute has gone from 1 hr to about 10 seconds (the time it takes to get from bedroom to the study).
