If you want to check out a book which is ALL about that...
"Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer.
He takes you right up the mountain on an Everest expedition that claimed many lives. Easily the best book on big time mountaineering I've ever read.

@HeyRouben You bet. I'm a backpacker, not a climber, but it's really interesting to me. While not an alpinist, Alex Honnold is a guy I follow pretty closely. He's cut from a different cloth. As are most climbers and high-elevation mountaineers
