Is animal testing necessary evil?

midnightsun · 26-30, M
depends on the kind of testing.

In some cases like testing new medicines for example, we absolutely need animals.
Aidan · 26-30
No it’s not necessary. Plenty of people volunteer to have products tested on them.
Indy74 · 46-50, F
I think so. I do dislike the thought of it though.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@Indy74 I am in agreement...sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't (depends on what it is that is being tested). I do not like to think that an animal may suffer, but I doubt seriously that many humans would elect to be tested on not knowing the outcome.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Ain't they got enough "research" by now. The pen is mightier than the sword.
suchaslife · F
@FloorGenAdm Right? This is the argument , Outdoor air pollution kills 2 million people every single year. The risk from nuclear power pales in comparison...Farrrrk!
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
@suchaslife Your f bomb is way better than a nuclear bomb.
suchaslife · F
@FloorGenAdm lol..that's just came out lol
BearDownChicago · 41-45, M
I figure it has to be done in order to be safe for humans. But do it as humanely as possible. Hate to see another life suffer
suchaslife · F
@BearDownChicago The reality is that animal testing is vital to biomedical research. There is simply no way around this.
BearDownChicago · 41-45, M
@suchaslife I was thinking you more meant in the makeup testing. Jk. You are correct. Animals are th closest thing to have to test the reactions a human might have
[c=#359E00]it's necessary for us to develop, it's just look evil but actually it is not[/c]
I can see it used sparingly, to save human lives, treating diseases. Not for human vanity, like perfumes or cosmetics.
suchaslife · F
@bijouxbroussard You're right

That seems to be a logical demarcation to me, as well. @bijouxbroussard

@bijouxbroussard 👏😉

It is becoming clearer, to science, that animal testing, is not accurate in predicting side effects of drugs, and medical procedures.

Data Science, is helping to wean companies off animal testing. I hope we can have a future, where we're as kind to animals, as we are to out fellow human beings, but then again, I see how people treat each other, and it doesn't look good.

I think it is a necessary evil - well it is in the current climate.

Without that testing what's the alternative? Experiment on humans? That got a bad press before...
suchaslife · F
@SW-User I swear...
SW-User
@suchaslife I have a dark sarcastic humour....
suchaslife · F
@SW-User I like it

Experimenting on animals is always unacceptable because: it causes suffering to animals. the benefits to human beings are not proven. any benefits to human beings that animal testing does provide could be produced in other ways.

SW-User
@suchaslife Indeed
It is not. Plenty companies get away with not doing it, others don’t have an excuse.
these days they can grow cells to test on
so that should help
If you ever want them to graduate....yes.
SW-User
Absolutely not necessary.
SW-User
Upto some extent
SW-User
Definitely evil
indyjoe · 56-60, M
I cannot say for sure one way or the other...my question is would YOU volunteer to have a new product tested on you? (generally and hypothetically asked)
