The Great Grandfather Clock
Tick tock, tick tock, tick.

The clock stops at a halt right on twelve, rewinds, and begins to tick again.

How far back do we go? How many times do we repeat ourselves? How many times does the clock strike twelve and return back to the beginning?

I suppose the clock is the beginning and end of time, but right now, we're in the in between.

Time, what exactly is time? Does time really exist? If it begins and ends at the exact same moment, then the only moment it can exist is in the in between, which would be where we are right now.

I stared at the great grandfather clock, and listened carefully as it ticked along in a circular motion. It had a magical sound when it chimed, a beautiful melody that made you want to listen so intently to it. A repeating rhythm, to remind us that everything was ticking away as it should be.

I looked at the small brown table I was seated at and stared at the documents in which I was meant to read. "What bland and useless rubbish" I thought. "Why do they bother sending such nonsense? Surely they could be sending more useful things than this..." I stood up, walked to my drawer and pulled out my cigars. I took out the gold dragon zippo that i inherited from my father and turned to the grandfather clock once again.

As I slid the cigar into my mouth, I noticed a small glimmer coming from the face of the clock.

I walked over to the dear grandfather, to take a closer look at this strange flicker of gleaming light. "Where on earth did that suddenly come from?" I asked out loud to myself. When I got closer to the light, I was suddenly pulled into the mechanics of this machinery. As I wandered through, all the strange parts to the machine floated past me, ticking away sublimely like nothing out of the ordinary was happening. When I walked closer to one of the parts, I was pushed all the way to the ground and entered a tidy space of ground underneath a surface of stone. "Where am I?" I remarked. As I looked around, all I saw was beautifully made stone walls, with a huge fireplace in the middle. When I looked back to where I sprouted from, I saw a magnificent roman clock which was ten times smaller than the clock I had absorbed into. "How did I end up here? Is this a dream?" I asked as I started to wander through the room I had fallen into.

There was a remarkable Edwardian couch seated a few meters back from the fireplace, a small square table with long legs next to it, and a newspaper sitting on the table on such an angle, it was almost falling to the floor.

The room was lit very dimly with oil lamps and the one next to the roman clock began to fade out.

All of a sudden, I heard a small creak coming from the floor boards and I panicked. I had no idea where I was, yet a sense of trespassing into someone's home came rushing over me. "Oh dear, what to do I wonder... If I get caught, perhaps I will be arrested, and if that happens, I assume they will not believe that I was transported there by a clock. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear" I exclaimed as I paced around the room. I heard a noise right behind the door, and watched with my eyes open widely as the door handle began to move slowly around.

"Stop standing there like a blind fool!" I thought to myself and I quickly maneuvered myself towards the clock. As I reached the clock and looked back towards the door, I was absorbed into the face of it once again, watching as the surroundings of the room slowly swirled into the mechanics of the clock. My heart beating rapidly as I wandered around the mechanical playground. "What is this strange machine?"
