Law and Order

There is this attempt to pitch the Republican party as the “Law and Order Party”, with the implication that Democrats are all in favor of full-blown riots, anarchy and letting everyone out of jails. In fact, the choice is between two styles of “Law and Order”.

There is the Russian/Nazi/Chinese perspective that citizens are inherently dangerous and suspicious, and are better controlled by giving the security forces free reign when it comes to survey and detain whoever they see fit, favoring a generous dose of violence and intimidation by the security forces to keep people “in line”.

Then there is the true American perspective on “Law and Order”, where no one — not even the president — is above the law, and where people are presumed innocent until proven guilty (instead of presumed guilty because the darkness of their skin), where citizens are presumed to be law abiding, mature and responsible, without the need to be threatened with federal troops whenever they exercise their constitutional right of freedom of expression.

Don’t let anyone fool you: no one is against law and order. Do you think Americans are mature enough to resist the fearmongering that has giving legitimacy to dictatorships everywhere? Are Americans brave enough to trust each other and those who look/are different? Or is the sight of someone different too scary for those who cover themselves with the flag and passively bask in the glory of the ones who bravely fought and defeated Nazism 75 years ago?

What side are you on, really?

It has always been agreed upon that the right favors structure and rigidity while the left favors freethinking and mobility

The irony there is that those who fought and defeated Nazism were anti-fascists. Today’s “patriots” wrap themselves in the Swastika and the Confederate flag, both defeated by the U.S.
