How come you can't complain if you don't vote but can if you do?

They say if you don't contribute to the election then you have no right to complain about who gets elected. I can understand that reasoning, but what I can't understand is the logic that if you did vote someone in, then you do have a right to complain. You would think if you endorsed a candidate, you're partly responsible for them being in office. If you end up not liking the job they do, you have the least rights of all to complain. You made your bed, now you have to sleep in it, right? I asked two people here this question earlier today but they didn't (couldn't?) give me an answer. Sounds like a double standard to me, but I'm open to anyone willing to explain how it isn't.

I’d say the difference is one person tried to make the choice to elect someone they felt best represented the values, changes they want to see. They aren’t responsible if that candidate fails to live up to their promises. ( let’s get real all politicians lie to an extent) The other where a person decides to not even make a choice from the list of choices it seems silly to say how poor things are going as they didn’t want to be involved in whoever ended up in charge in the first place. But they too are not responsible for what the elected do. One tries & may then be upset over lack of results. The other observes & then complains. To be quite honest though it’s a right to vote not a requirement. Those that are in countries where they have a chance to have their voice heard it can be a wonderful exercise of their freedom & rights. Trying to directly influence their country & its policies with what they themselves feel matters. But those that aren’t interested in trying to give their input to hopefully make the changes they feel are important don’t need shaming as far as I’m concerned. It’s a choice after all. Although I have found this most recent election a bit funny. Advertisers letting the public know our neighbors can see if we vote or not so be sure to do so or be shamed! Lol it’s absolutely nutty.
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit That, I can understand. Finally, a straightforward answer that makes sense! Thank you. I can comprehend that logic a little better now.

@PerchingDove thanks for BC & you are welcome for the break down. Glad I made some sort of sense lol

You can do whatever you want.
@Selah I know, but I'm trying to understand something that doesn't make sense to me. If there is even anything to understand. Doesn't look like it. 🤣
