I Enjoy It.....

I'm mostly the archetype 'Rock Chick', I guess; I ADORE Def Leppard (My Band), KISS, Bon Jovi, Heart, Van Halen, Queen, Thin Lizzy and AC/DC....later to get very infatuated with the Dan Reed Network...but that's another story for another time!

But, by listening to these early bands - especially Queen and Heart - they had quite a progressive sensibility to their music. That led onto bands like Styx....

Then, I think, around 1984 there wasn't really anything happening - Sure, Bon Jovi had started....and Van Halen had their '1984' Opus, but nothing really more...

...and then I found Marillion! Quirky...a HUGE 6ft 5 inch Scots bloke wearing makeup and sprouting poetry to a jaunty little number that you really couldn't dance to. That was 'Punch & Judy' and that, alongside the title track of that particular parent album - 'Fugazi' - totally blew my little 14 year old mind!

From there I found Rush....and, I guess, they're my favourite of the modern progressive bands. Modern? Well, I didn't know of their past...I just found 'Grace Under Pressure'! Lol! Naturally, I enjoyed the Phil Collins led Genesis and I was chatting to this guy, when I was in my mid twenties, who told me to listen to their 'early stuff..' and made mention of an album called 'Foxtrot'...so, I bought it...and...oh my! Stunned! I found a new music!

In my 30's I found Yes and ELP.....complicated, for sure, and took a long time to get into but I really enjoyed them both....as an aside, am I the only person that loves '...Topographic Oceans' ?!?

In my late 40's I heard King Crimson.....blew my older head away...

But I still remain a Marillion and Fish fan....last year's 'Weltschmerz' was such a fantastic sound off to a great career....

Progressive Rock? I would hazard a guess that it's not for everyone but I think if people gave it a little bit of a chance...they might just like it!

I like some prog rock - I'm especially enamored of The Moody Blues! And yeah - Rush is the ultimate!
