If all flies were fireflies, would we like them more or less?

Often, we only appreciate something in comparison to something else. Relativity.

Culture has given them a cute persona.. I don't know if it would be the same if a tarantula lit up but at least we know where they are. There's an interesting story about the Shogun crab. And how by accident it's survived and flourished. One of these crabs in Japan happened to have a marking similar to a Shogun Warriors mask. Lo and behold they thought it was a spirit and kept throwing it back in the water while keeping the others for food. Eventually the marking was found on The Offspring and they were thrown back as well. So crabs with that marking flourished. And now the Shogun crab almost all have the marking of the Shogun mask. Thanks to a lucky unique pattern that happened on one particular crab..

@Jibby That is very interesting, thank you. It's no more absurd than anything else, though, I don't think. This world is a crazy place.

@DanielChristensen I was watching something recently wear a bunch of liberals were screaming about cutting down old growth forest because the spotted owl was becoming endangered. But the lumber yards put five times the amount of New Growth trees for every tree they took. People still complained but again lo and behold the spotted owl's all moved to the new growth forests because they could see that prey on the ground easier. Now they are overpopulated and doing fantastically. Thanks to the lumber yards
Fireflies was a wonderful TV series from
Joss Whedon.
I would like flies to turn to that.
@DanielChristensen
14 episodes in 2002 to 2003 and they are looking for a reboot!

@SomeLikeItHot Man I would love that

We might like them more at night. We could appreciate their beauty more as the light of day fades away.

I don't have strong feelings or a strong opinion on the flies\firefly issue. But I do agree that sometimes one can appreciate something or someone more OR less when a comparison happens...and one might have a moment of thinking over who or what has changed in their life,or what they have gained or lost, or maybe just a moment of a different perspective. But I also think comparison isn't the best way to find an appreciation for something or someone.

They would be less annoying and prettier.
we would like them more because they would be different, we would like until they became as mundane and look for some other species to make a comparison with.

@SagePoet I love their bio-luminescent burning.

More. Because they would have to come out a night now.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@SW-User I didn't see any for many years and thought they had gone extinct. Many species of creatures do. It turns out, in my area, they were being killed by pesticide sprayed by the local government to cut down on mosquitoes. I see a few of them, here and there, nowadays. Especially by this reservoir I walk to for exercise.
