Which is worse—failing or never trying?

I think never trying is worst... 😞

Failing. It sucks but not trying you might as well just dig a hole and pull the dirt in after you. Even though you can find ways to excuse yourself later on.

Unfortunately too many people do not know what failing is. Participation trophies and awarded for showing up always piss me off a bit.

Except for running a marathon or the Olympics failing and coming in second place is not winning. A agree with you 100% that even becoming the first looser is infinitely more rewarding than the one who never at least tried. The effort is important and in its way a major accomplishment, but still a failure and learning how to handle, accept and overcome that is a needed life lesson.

Generally speaking dependant upon the results of the fail
Never trying. You can never fail or succeed unless you try.
