I Am An Only Child

I'm an only child, my parents couldn't have had the time to have a second child. I was super clingy to my mom and my dad, he wasn't always around and eventually divorced my mom.

I definitely can't have a sibling now, well I guess I could if they adopted, but I don't think they'd want a another's child — not because I was a terrible tyrant or anything. Well, maybe it's more that I don't want a sibling so I'll always be in the center of their hearts. That sounds kind of selfish, doesn't it?

I'm an only child, too. But I am cuz my little brother died when he was a baby, and my parents didn't want the chance at more pain.

I love and hate being an only child. Like you I love being the center of my parents' lives, and I love them so much.

But I miss my little brother even tho I hardly knew him, and I wish I had him here.

I think every human being is probably selfish to some extent or another.

I am the eldest of three brothers; when the second one came along, it seems I felt jealous or something that he was getting more attention. Then apparently the middle one felt left out later on.

It can be nice having siblings, but then there are the fights and the offences, the annoyances. That is one way to learn to share. ;)

It seems there are the downsides and the perks on either situation.

One child syndrome comes to mind but I am sure each person is an individual and handles life in their own way. I have 3 siblings but felt like an only child in my dysfunctional family which kept us separate from one another to keep abuse a secret. That is my understanding of matters anyway - of course I am alone in this view!
