Would you talk to the CEO or upper manager at your job?.

The executive director of my department works just down the hall. I see him pass by my door often but like...what do you say to someone of that caliber, nice suit? 😕

I feel stupid when I don't even have small talk for him and probably look or seem snobbish.
He walks super fast Any way...
Say the same things to him as you do anyone else. He’s just some guy with a title.

.. oh, and yes. I do talk to the higher ups.

@nonsensiclesnail true. Problem is, he's always in his office and when out of it, is walking super fast. And to me, that is unapproachable
That is inconvenient. But when given the opportunity, just talk to him. @iamnikki

I have no choice. I report to a VP and he likes to talk to me way too much. I would rather talk to the admin.

I talk to my bosses boss about his interest in snow skiing but I am very careful about not breaking the chain of command by saying anything work-related. Like if he says how is the job going? I will always say fine thanks no matter what.

@SW-User i dont know anything about the man. There isn't much opportunity. Unless I'm hanging out in the hall waiting for him to come thru. I Would ask him a work related question, even though i dont have any. Word is he doesn't know anything anyway lol

@iamnikki I have known a few bosses that don't know anything outside of work. They aren't fun at staff parties ...

@SW-User lol

Why worry? He seems too busy to get to know his staff.
How would you react if he came to your desk wanting to get to know his employees?
Just continue to do what your doing.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Gusman he's asked me a handfull of questions before
Gusman · 61-69, M
@iamnikki You don't end up stuttering, or shaking at the knees?
Then all is well.
Does he even have time for small talk? You seem to be coping okay.

Eh, they are people too. I talk to the head of our North America operations without any problems.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Turtlepower i know they are, that's why i want to talk to him. Dont know what to say
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@iamnikki Same thing you'd say to anyone else. Joke about something that your whole department could relate to, or even something as simple as the weather.
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@iamnikki Also, nothing wrong with complimenting their suit. You never know what kind of conversation that could start.

Honestly, just make eye contact, be friendly, and if you want to establish a rapport find a time when he's not trying to do something else.

A good morning is a starting point.I have spoken to senior management many times and find they are approachable and friendly.I have also met the CEO.
I have talked with the president of my university. It's never been any fun though :P
