Why would a company call and reject you when they can just send an email?

Is this common? Especially after the first round interview?

I interviewed 1.5-2 weeks ago. I sent an email asking for the outcome of my interview. I received a voicemail (missed the call) from the company saying they are ringing to give me the “feedback” of my interview. My application status hasn’t changed online. I’m trying to be positive because I won’t know until Monday now. But would they be that awkward to reject me over the phone? It has to be good news right? Otherwise it is just awkward.

Any thoughts?

Should never pin your hopes on one interview.
You've no idea what it is they're looking for, sadly, most interviewers don't know either !
Just add it to the 'pending' file and seek out the next one.
If they call you back, all well and good.

@schizosaint oh I hope so. The HR man asked me to call him in Monday. Imagine if this is a rejection I would LOL on the phone.

I also have a second round interview next week.

@outsidethebox18 if you made it to the second round it means you passed the first! Congradulations...

efficiency.

@sighmeupforthat in what way? Sending rejection emails is efficient. Not a phone call.
