I Am a Screw Up

Once again, I have ruined things with someone I care about. Here's what has happened:
We met at the hospital a few months ago (he was security and I am a crisis specialist) and have been talking ever since. He has had a gf within the time period we have known each other (now he is single again), but I have not dated anyone.
This weekend, I went to see an air show (Blue Angels) and kind of tried to get him to go with me. Jokingly, I stated that I would get to see all these sexy men in uniform. He stopped talking. After the air show, I asked him what was wrong and he said nothing. Later, I invited him over to my place for Wednesday night and he said that he would if I didn't have someone else. I told him that of course I didn't, and that there was a guy I like and care about, that guy being him. He has not talked to me since I told him that I like him. I don't know what to do with him. I really like him and thought he would realize that I was joking. He knows I find him very attractive. I'm afraid I've hurt our potential past the point of repair.

I told him that my invite for him to come over tonight is still open, but I don't think he'll show up. He hasn't talked to me since I told him I care about him. I kind of wonder if he thought I love him, too, which I don't. I won't rush into saying something like that. He feels like no woman cares about or loves him, so that's when I told him that I care. That's when he stopped talking. I thought I might have a shot at being with him. He's sweet and not in it for sex (supposedly). I just don't know. He sends me mixed signals. The text I sent about the invite still being open is the last text I will ever send him unless he texts me first. I'm going to delete his number out of my phone, actually.

If he gets upset this easily, it doesn't sound like you could ever joke around him or relax. As much as you like him, perhaps you need someone who is more on your wavelength. Especially if you want something long-term.

Interesting that he would get hurt over a silly statement. We are all human and eye candy is all around
