I Adore Books and Reading

There is a one eyed monster living with us in the corner of the room. It's spellbinding, drawing us in as dreadful time waster, especially when it comes to flicking channels. But I do love my television and it's companions the dvd and video (yes, I own one of those too) players. So because I find it difficult to lure myself away from the evening's viewing, I read in bed. Sometimes into the early hours when it's peaceful and I don't mind this one jot. Which makes a pleasant change from raiding our collection of box sets for reruns of The Sopranos. There's an intimacy in bedtime reading that might have something to do with the pillows and sheets and the comfort they bring, but it's probably more about what happens when I move my eyes across a page. I feel an aura of calm.

Beautifully written - yes, that last little time reading in bed can be very relaxing indeed. VHS isn't even manufactured anymore, I think, for domestic use. I do still have material on there I never got around to transferring to DVD. I stopped watching tv when I was about 15, but do love my boxsets to watch as and when I please. TV's changed completely of late, too though. All about streaming now!

Reading is an escape like no other. The feel of an actual book in your hands and the sound of pages turning help create that special journey.
