I Need Advice

I'm going to give you a piece of advice. I hope you'll take it to heart, or at least read it through and take anything you find useful. If you don't like it, ignore me as the faceless voice I am.

Less.

Just one word, but that's the whole of the advice I want to give you. And it is anathema to the culture we live in today! We spend our lives trying to obtain for more. We work more, to have more income, to be able to buy more, to be able to enjoy our life more.

That's really stupid.

Instead of desperately trying to increase our income, we should be trying to decrease our expenses. Imagine cutting your bills in half and how much more money that would free up. If you have fewer expenses, you can do more with the same amount of income. Not working harder or longer and still doing more of what you enjoy. Instead of working 80 hours a week to sleep in a house you don't spend time at buying stuff you don't need to stimulate an economy that doesn't benefit you, cut back.

I'll give you some basic math. If you work 40 hours a week, and cut your expenses in half, that means you only need to work 20 hours a week to maintain the same kind of life. Sounds pretty good to me.

How about you?

Sounds like you plan to move to a trailer park.

Got a nice house in the suburbs with a two acre yard I just planted with blueberries. All because I said to Hell with trying to get more, I want to do more with what I have.

@MidsouthGuy Okay. You need to own a house and be dept free to have low living costs.A high salary is a good idea rather than long hours.

My salary is actually pretty average (a bit below average if I'm being honest with myself). I just avoid frivolous spending like the plague, slapped a small solar panel on the roof to cut energy costs, and get a lot of food from the garden in the back. I won't lie, it was like biting off a finger trying to rid myself of bad habits, but it freed up more time to spend doing what really matters with the people who really matter.
