I Have Bad Luck
I don't like cooking to start with... But my car has been at the mechanic since Tuesday (new transmission = $2500), I'm sort of running out of food because the weather has been nasty all these days and I haven't bought much groceries. So I decide to try out a roast beef I've been saving for some special occasion (essentially it was the only real food I had at home).
OK. The 8-min rice I generally cook has been discontinued and I have to try out another kind that I had bought last week. It's reportedly ready in 15-17 minutes, but after 13 minutes I start smelling something burned... I go check and sure enough the bottom is very black... I take the rice off the burner, perhaps I can salvage a portion. Time to get the roast beef out of the oven, too. I get my worn out oven mittens and as I try to pull the grid to get to the meat I get a MIGHTY and painful burn in my left thumb (turns out, the mitten had a small hole, and my thumb made full contact with the 350F grid)...
OK, OK... Time to savage the rice... I put my plate on top of the "off" burner because I'm running out of space... I start to transfer the rice from the pot to the plate. It's a new rice thing, with its own seasoning and stuff, and it makes an odd cracking noise as I put it into my plate. What do you know, the "off" burner was actually "on" (I forgot to turn it off when I rushed to take the pot off it, since the rice was burning). Suddenly the plate breaks in two (because of the heat), spilling all the rice on the range and burner... The meat fortunately was OK, although I had a really hard time trying to cut it, having my left thumb burned...
Oh joy I hate my life, and it's only Thursday.
