I Have Some Songs That Make Me Want to Cry

More than I would care to admit it reality... after the cataclysm all the songs I heard, the songs I knew all the words to... hell, songs I loved... the meanings all changed. Rather, my perspective changed. My ba<x>seline rotated or something. Suddenly songs that seemed quite benign were laden with meanings. Loaded with pain. Dripping with betrayal.
So I don't listen to music much any more.
We shall see how the callouses grow on the heart. We'll see...

It's strange how that happens, doesn't it? I'm a firm believer that the music we listen to speaks to whatever we are feeling at that time. We listen to love songs when we're in love, songs of heartbreak after a breakup and songs of anger and hatred when we're angry. They are a mirror reflection of what we are feeling.

As a result, we end up finding meanings in songs that we never saw before. Suddenly, you understand love songs and what they're all about. You also find yourself "empathizing" for the "angry" person singing because you understand that place of pain they are coming from.

Music can be a healer if you allow it to be. Don't fight the urge to listen to your wedding song or the songs that once made you happy. Listen to them. Maybe that's what you need to do. Just listen to them and if you have to, cry. Don't hold back.

Maybe it won't work for you, but when I do that, I always feel better after. Maybe not immediately after, but eventually. It's an opportunity to both confront your demons and bare your soul.
