I Miss My Grandma

Mom had cooked rice in the rice cooker. I scoop out a bowl for myself. A few grains of rice stick to my fingertips. In that brief instant, I remember how one day after kindergarten, I came back to the little flat and told Granny I had homework to do. It was a tear and paste booklet that the teacher had given. I could do the tearing of the perforated pictures well enough but I knew nothing about pasting them onto the page. Granny just looked at it and decided that she knew what to do. I saw her disappear into the kitchen and then coming back with a few grains of cooked rice. She then helped me smear it onto the back of the pictures. They stuck well and good. I was so glad. And I grew up thinking that glue comes from rice. Wait, where does glue come from? Do you know?

Another day, I came home from kindergarten and the teacher had instructed us to draw a horse. I had no blinking idea how to do it. Again I asked Granny. She was quite helpless too but she saw we had a wooden carved horse on top of the old cabinet. She took a pencil and started to draw the outline of it. I watched her. I still remember it was late in the evening then. But it looked like she really enjoyed drawing the picture. I was just glad I had something to hand in the next day.

And today I found out that horses are good for making glue. Don't believe me? Google it. How strange things are. Is this what is termed 'serendipity'?

I really miss Granny.
Oh is that why they used to talk about sending them to the glue factory? 😳

Yes. Apparently, horses have a lot of collagen in their connective tissues. I did not know glue came from animals in the olden days.
OH :/

Such a sweet story. I can picture both of you, her wise face telling you how to do it, and your grateful happy face when she helped you.
:)
am glad you could have her presence for a fair amount of time in your life. You are blessed.

Some people travel with you only for a certain distance and then you have to walk ahead on your own. But I know she never really left me.
