I Miss My Grandma
So in 2012 I lost both of my grandmas within two months of each other, and even though I loved both of them I still think I was closer to my grandma on my dad's side of the family. Here's a funny story that happened when I was much younger and is pretty funny now. I even told it at her funeral. Now for those who may or may not know I'm completely blind and have been since birth. This is relevant to the story and you'll see as you read on. My grandma used to come out from New York and stay with us for the summer when I was a kid. Well one summer she was out they were doing a lot of construction around my neighborhood. Now Grandma and I used to go on walks when the sun would go down and this particular summer when we'd do our walks we'd always go check out all these construction projects around the neighborhood. It was mostly a lot of new houses being built so she'd let me walk up and touch the framework, or she'd say, "oh look they just put the windows in," and let me feel the new windows that weren't there the previous day. Anyway this particular night we went walking there was a bunch of construction equipment like earth movers and things that was left at one particular construction site. As usual she let me go up to the equipment, climb on it, and feel the different machines. As we're doing this we notice a police helicopter is above us and shining the searchlight directly on us. So here's this elderly woman and her 10 year old blind grandson and the cops are checking us out? Well she eventually says, "hey I don't know about this helicopter maybe we should head home." So as we're walking home the helicopter keeps following us! We finally get to our drive-way and the helicopter's still overhead with it's searchlight trained on us. We eventually decide to go in to the garradge and close the overhead door and the helicopter finally leaves. I always think of that story and it still makes me smile, and I'm sure Grandma smiles down on me when she thinks of it too.
