Mohammed Ali. Greatest boxer ever lived. Now an absolute legend.

Jesse Owens. To go into Berlin in 1936 and stick it to Hitler the way Owens did puts him at the top of my list.

I'll open the bidding with Daley Thompson CBE. British Decathlete who won gold at two consecutive Olympic games. Russia in 1980 and USA in 1984.

True. Both games were beset by political shenanigans from the USA in 1980 and Russia in '84. Both refusing to appear at each others games. The U.S. because of Russia's 'occupation' of Afghanistan and Russia in '84 citing 'Anti-Soviet hysteria in America'.

But neither were Thompson's fault. In both competitions Thompson broke something like 4 world records for the event at that time.

4 Commonwealth; 2 European and 1 World title are all among his achievements.

Given that Britain had few sponsored athletes at the time, he had to work and earn a living whilst competing on the world athletic stage, so that too is worth considering.

And if all that wasn't enough from a rare 'none-white-athlete' in Britain at the time, he has the cheekiest personality that instantly disarms people whenever you saw him on tv !

I don't like him because I'm a jazz fan but I think athletically you have to say Micheal Jordan.
Them darts champions seem like finely tuned athletes
