I Had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Weight Loss Surgery
I was diagnosed with a condition called “ shutdown syndrome in 2005 , basically it a condition where the body over compensates when sleeping , and the body shuts down and hibernates , like a bear would in winter , causing the body to store carbs and all intake as energy reserves , fats basically , also a I have rare type of sleep apnea too .
I’m so Lucky a great doc discovered it , and I was able to get treatment , implants to trick the brain and body to over stimulation of the duodenum , and after a lot of hard work , I was able to get funding for a gastric bypass , I was 198kg , and had chronic diabetes , post surgery it was hell , I wouldn’t suggest it to anyone , unless your very serious in being driven and dedicated to loosing weight , but 5 years down the line I’m now 110kgs , I know I’m still big , but clinically I fitter than even I have ever been , and the condition stops much further weight loss , I’m much happier obviously, and no longer have symptoms of diabetes and take no medication,
But I’m still stigmatised as being obese , by those not in the know , yes it hurts , but I accept it
Also I would like to say , post surgery it’s has to be a big lifestyle change , and I will always have chronic sleep apnea , but its well treated and controlled , also I have at least 3-5 kg of excess skin on my middle , not funded and to dangerous to undergo surgery to remove
But I’m 90% happier in in Myself
