I Hate Getting Ripped Off

So my fiancé dropped off his truck at a mechanic he’s been going to for years.
He bought a lift kit for it so he could supply the parts. All they had to do was install.

They originally estimated 135 dollars. This morning they called and said it’s 716 dollars. A total of 571 jack up in price because “‘you supplied the part so we charge more for labor’”. Then later called him to say that the tension bar was broken and they can’t do it anyway.

Everyone we talked to, my dad (who’s worked on cars his whole life), my friend who is an auto enthusiast, his military buddy who’s a master mechanic outside of the base, his dad, and anyone else all agrees that even if they charged more for labor 571 dollar mark up is complete BULLSHIT.

So he’s going to my mechanic in the future. Cause mine, if you supply the part. Will ONLY charge you for labor. But for instance I had him do my timing belt and water pump (I supplied the part) he charged me only $312 dollars.

It really ticked off my fiancé since he’s been a really loyal customer and they pulled this on him.

Better to pay family and friends the same price if they can do it and that way you're at least giving money to someone you love in the end..

Well he ended up going to my family’s mechanic. And he’s only going to be charged 190. @AuRevoir
