I Hate That There Is So Many Homeless People In The World

The least expensive apartment that you can find for one person is $1000. When you go to an apartment complex you are usually required to make three times the amount in order for the apartment to be leased to you. In other words, a person would have to have a job where they make $3,000 monthly in order to rent an apartment, with proof that can back that up. Most entry level positions are not going to make that possible for someone. If someone wasn’t able to go to college and works to make a living, their pay could be less, and they could very well be trying, working people who would rather gain their skills on the job and not through books they can’t afford.

And this is just the regular person.

We look at homeless people and we think, “Why don’t they just get a job?” Obviously because no one will hire them in conditions where they can’t take care of their hygiene, clothes, or food. And second, even if they did get a minimum wage job they still wouldn’t be even close to paying a month of their bill let alone be approved with the requirement of making three times the amount. These are people who either ran away, have no one to look out for them, and they gave themselves to chance, the danger of the possibility of death for not being “functional or convenient” for another.

Looking at these people with anger, assuming they are good-for-nothing addicts does nothing. We don’t get close in fear of our own self-preservation, correct? We don’t want a stranger, who could be dangerous to rob us, or come live with us because we are _____________, what? We are self-preservative creatures that although want to believe we are so spiritual and connected to a higher power, we only get involved as much as it is safe and comfortable for us to. We excuse ourselves, I excuse myself saying, “Well it’s not my business, they’re lazy, it’s their choice, we all have free will....” Come on now. We are creatures roaming on this earth, who didn’t choose to exist in it, who are ONLY wanted when functional and useful... lucky and strong are those that don’t seek an outlet that can destroy them in exasperation for fighting to stay afloat. Some just get tired of the shallowness, of the fakeness of it all, they run away from everything and give their lives away because being found “functional” isn’t their idea of meaningfulness in this life anymore.

“No excuses! They can change everything through will power. No one is to blame for our choices but ourselves”....

Yeah yeah, in a world where we didn’t get to pick our options. Touché my friend.

So if you’re like me and you’re too selfish and judgmental to get involved because you feel a homeless person is not safe, well at least don’t say anything, don’t say anything demeaning towards them. Just say nothing. If you aren’t willing to help someone, because you are selfish like me, then at least drop the demeaning words. As should be applied on our day to day lives, if we are not willing to have the patience to teach, to coach someone along the way, to give of ourselves, to listen to others’ story, then drop the negative critical words. Just say nothing. And walk on.
