What would you do if....

you got a beautiful gift for your dear friend which was much appreciated by them. But months later when it was your birthday month, they didn't buy you a gift inturn.
A year later, when their birthday month rolls over again, will you buy them a gift?

Yes because gifts aren’t about getting a gift back.

Yes, assuming we're still on good terms otherwise. I don't give people things with the expectation that I'll get something in return. That's a good way to set myself up for disappointment.
Maybe. If so, it would be the same thing I gave them the previous year. Might jar their memory?

Give when you feel sincere. Don't expect things in return.

I did it before for people I cared about
I've never given a gift expecting something in return. Some people don't have the means to spend much money but if they gave me something that wasn't much in price I'd love it anyways. Even a note from someone that let me know they approached the gift is enough for me

I don't give or expect gifts. I send birthday greetings to the women in my life though none have ever even asked when my birthday is. That's why I eat worms.

Love doesn't mean expecting something in return, but I will also ensure that their self esteem don't get hurt.
If we're still close sure

Yes , if I care about them

I dont celebrate birthdays and part of it is because expecting something in return for a gift is toxic.
