There's been an interesting shift away from the allies status in recent years.
Probably since George Walker Bush got his 'coalition of the willing' together for his disastrous foray into the Middle-East.

Then politics falls on it's @$$ !
Britain decides to leave the E:U. America elects a non-politician and Britain elects a guy you wouldn't trust to walk your dog !
And they are both negotiating a 'big trade deal' of some description.

I'm sure if either country were attacked by a foreign force the other would jump to their aid. But since i don't think either side quite understands what the other is doing i think it's something of a 'fractious friendship'.

I think it all depends on the situation...

Whereas our governments consider us allies when it comes down to the people that's a different matter.

We've had our war which was a long time ago however that's all over now and we're best of friends.
