Hmmm. Scams these days.

Just got a call from the Taxation Department. It was from a fellow who informed me that a warrant for my arrest has been issued. Unless I pay up. Thing is; I don't earn a taxable income. Methinks a scam is underfoot.
Your windows pc has a virus. I'm running linux you weirdo.
@canusernamebemyusername
“Your Windows PC has been compromised” was the message on my landline. I might’ve been worried...except I have a Mac. 🙄
I received an email that someone hacked into my account and stole all my info as well as browser history. Oh, and they hacked into my camera and have snaps of me doing things and all the dirty sites I've visited. They demand bitcoins or will send these pics to everyone in my contact list. They obviously don't know my friends...

@BrewCityBarfly Looks like they have not been keeping track of the value of Bitcoin lately either.

Yes.. Its been tried in a few places.. The next step is to get your card details to "process the matter prompts" or even to get you to buy value cards and use them over the phone to avoid arrest.

@Cavedweller Agreed. It happens here too. Its about preying on the vulnerable

@whowasthatmaskedman Merry Christmas let us drain your bank accounts.

@Cavedweller The best we can do is draw attention as you have.

"You can pay us in Applebees Gift Cards." 😐

Once some fella from a funeral home called me accidentally with questions about my deceased grandma.

I don’t remember exact details.... but he had the wrong number.

We talked for like an hour.

The Taxation Department won’t issue conditional warrants of arrest....neither will they call you on the telephone.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@DragonFruit Exactly.

I get these calls regularly. "A warrant has been issued for your arrest for non payment of taxes. If you do not call us immediately, I can only hope the best for you when you are hauled off to jail."
If you get these calls, note the number. When they call back, answer the call saying, "sheriff office, fraud department". The one time I did this, they said, What?. So i repeated,... they hung up immediately, and haven't called me back since.

Sad thing is that plenty of people will fall for it.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@LyricalOne I know. Bewilder the hell out of them and keep the threats coming.
Methinks is was, too. What ever became of this?
Absolutely a scam.
