Why do we call the Friday after Thanksgiving "Black Friday?"

If anything, we should call it RED Friday, since most people go into the red doing their holiday shopping. OR if you are a merchant, you can call it GREEN Friday since many retailers make enough money to stay in business for the year. Also, calling it BLACK Friday could be considered not politically correct and somehow bias/racist. Maybe we could call it RAINBOW Friday. Your opinions please.

It's an accounting term, red and black.
