I have a question. Which is closer to the description of a narcissist?

Could it be defined as being full of yourself, basically admiring yourself to the point that you genuinely feel you're special and better than others. Confidently bragging about it, and overestimating your importance to people? (of course, as far as you're concerned, you're as important as you think you are)

Or could narcissism be described as being self-absorbed and lost in your own world because you feel a lot of people around you aren't either interested enough/intelligent enough (or any other reason) to actually be of any valuable company to you. You don't brag, toot your own horn or anything. You just do the bare minimum social interaction needed to get by because you feel like they have nothing to offer(unless you meet a like mind, which is rare).

The first one, for sure.

@VolpeTredici what would you describe the second one as?
VolpeTredici · 31-35, M
@rickfreeman15 Could be a few things. Someone with some narcissistic tendencies, or simply arrogance, or just a distaste for humans in general. Probably more.
It's virtually impossible for narcissists to never brag though. At first I thought, maybe putting others down could be a way of bragging in that second example. However, if that person does his/her best to avoid people, it doesn't fit so well.

Neither one. It's a mental illness. Narcissistic personality disorder is a personality disorder with a long-term pattern of abnormal behavior characterized by exaggerated feelings of self-importance, excessive need for admiration, and a lack of empathy. The cause of narcissistic personality disorder is unknown.

The first one. These are symptoms in Narcissistic Personality Disorder, along with grandiosity, lack of remorse and empathy, sense of entitlement, etc

@basilfawlty89 what would you describe the second one as? Pride? Or "passive aggressive narcissism"?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@rickfreeman15 nah, sounds more like social anxiety

Neither is a narcissist. A lot of people will think the first is but a narcissist is far more than that.
rickfreeman15 · 22-25, M
@JaggedLittlePill how would you define a narcissist then?

And what words could you use to describe each personality?
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@rickfreeman15 you do understand that there are psychological articles on the internet where you can read about this very thing?
rickfreeman15 · 22-25, M
@JaggedLittlePill but I asked here.
