If a tree falls in a forest and you make it disappear with magic did it really exist?

Well, if it's just disappeared like invisible, then it's still there, and a nasty surprise for the next person who walks through. But if I remove it from existence entirely, then technically, as long as I remember doing it, it once existed, but does no longer.

That got complicated quickly, didn't it?
