Are you ashamed of your depression?

SailorMarz · F
Sometimes i feel like i’m not allowed to say i have this. Because i’m not depressed all the time. Or even act like i am
OverMe · 46-50, F
@SailorMarz There are all types of depression.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
No, why should anyone be ashamed of having an illness?
OverMe · 46-50, F
@Salix75 Different core beliefs, I guess.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
@OverMe I guess. Sad though. It's not like anyone with depression asked for it
No. Are you ashamed of yours?
OverMe · 46-50, F
@PhoenixPhail Yes. 😕
@OverMe I truly understand, but you really needn't be. That shame isn't yours. It belonged to someone else - someone who needed for you to take it on to keep you subordinate, controlled, powerless, and believing you were inferior to them. You don't have to stay there. Really.
OverMe · 46-50, F
@PhoenixPhail Thank you for this, my friend. 💓

@SoulKey Everyone is different.

I suppose I am when I am, but then again when one is really depressed does one care? What I think I do get ashamed about is talking about myself to someone who doesn't return the compliment.
OverMe · 46-50, F
@alan20 Could you elaborate on this, or give an example?:
What I think I do get ashamed about is talking about myself to someone who doesn't return the compliment.
@OverMe One or two ladies on here (whom I otherwise like) ask questions that can be a bit difficult and personal to answer, and then when I ask about their experience say they don't want to talk about it. Their prerogative of course but sometimes I wonder if they should be prepared to ask in that case. I'm not thinking of you; don't even think we've been in touch before. I expect its my own fault and we're not having a private exchange. That's all, really - just an unimportant reflection!
