I Am a Werewolf

Response To The Story "Twilighters And Wolves"... I feel the need to do this only because, on the subject of werewolves, this is an example of how not to act in the face of new information or ideas. Very recently, I commented on the story in this experience titled "Twilighters and Wolves" with the intent of critiquing the author, EuropeanAlphaFemale, on her method of getting a point across to people who are ignorant to the subject of werewolves. This critique turned into a back and forth argument (not heated) between the author and I over proper methods of "teaching", me saying that hers was too harsh and inappropriate and her saying that mine was too soft and compromising. While I felt this was a perfectly calm argument, the author apparently felt the need to delete it, stating that "I deleted it because you could not see my perspective."

My purpose, again, in doing this is to show others what not to do in the event of any kind of disagreement on any subject. Mine and EuropeanAlphaFemale's styles of "teaching" could simply be different and we would just both have to accept that, which I was willing to do. I did not think, though, that the conversation would be deleted and I would be blocked from responding to the post. So, instead of flagging the author, which I felt would be unnecessary, I thought I would confront the problem and present the opportunity for others to learn from this small event. The actions of EuropeanAlphaFemale, while completely justified in some more serious situations, were completely inappropriate and childish on her part. I mean this not as an insult but as a simple fact. If you do something childish, you are thus acting childishly. This is a perfect example of the kind of close-mindedness that makes cults function and allows lies and misconceptions (such as those about werewolves) to thrive. Deleting my perspective from the story is stating quite obviously that you do not want to hear what I have to say. Considering that I was only providing constructive criticism, this is uncalled for. Blocking me from saying anything further on that story, something that I have never done even to the most disruptive and hurtful commenters, is creating a one-way street where only her perspective and those who agree with her have the right to speak. All who agree can stay and all who do not are banished from the area. This is how cults form and how religious movements such as the spread of Christianity across Europe succeed. Convert or die, agree or leave, say what I want to hear or do not speak at all. Anyone who has been on the internet and searched various websites or threads about werewolves knows that this kind of arrogance and clos-mindedness appears often. Let this little argument between me and EuropeanAlphaFemale be just one more example of such close-mindedness. No matter how closed-off or ignorant a person may be who does not believe in the possibility or existence of werewolves, preventing their perspective from being heard is not being any more wise or intelligent. It is simply stopping someone who disagrees with you from talking because you are so consumed with believing that you are right you cannot even consider that you might be wrong or at least biased. Progression does not come through cherry-picking responses to satisfy your own beliefs, it comes through confronting disagreements and sometimes accepting the fact that some people will never pay attention or learn from what you have to say. When that happens, the best you can do is move on and let them think what they want. Science, throughout history, has not advanced by pandering to those who still believe the Earth is flat, only to those critics who are open to other ideas. That is all I ask of everyone here: try to be a little bit more open-minded.
