I Admire Bernie Sanders

I’m sure that this is the first time you’ve heard this from a college student. I just admire his character and the way that he openly criticizes politicians who don’t support the people even if it means insulting his own party. Putting character aside, I still support many of his policies. The case for universal healthcare is simple: the diseases with the highest death tolls in developed countries are easily treatable, but they infect many people and consequently cause deaths among those who don’t have access to basic medical care. Many European countries with socialized healthcare not only cover a larger portion of their population, but also spend less on healthcare per capita. In regard to LGBT rights, I think that they’re citizens that obey laws and pay taxes just like everyone else so they deserve equal treatment under the law even if it means the government has to spend extra resources to ensure equality. Lastly, I agree with Bernie’s cautious approach on environmental issues. The longer we ignore climate change and pollution, the larger the cost will be when we decide to remedy them (if we still can, that is).
