Hi christians! On whom does the burden of proof lay: christian or atheist? [Spirituality & Religion]

Is it on christians to prove that god exists or is it on atheists to prove that god doesn't exist?
Explain your reasoning.
SW-User
Christianity is about faith, rather than proof. But anyway, there's no proof. Maybe just show by example. Sadly many Christians don't do this, the opposite
SW-User
Doesn't everyone have their demons?
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955: It's not about winning or losing. Christian, show don't tell. Show by example

hi Literaturegirl
Demons me? Hmm I guess an imp or two!
Best wishes
:)
GJOFJ361-69, M
There is no need for either to prove anything. It is a belief for both.
GJOFJ361-69, M
@MetalGreymon: debate on faith is futile. But it is impossible to prove a negative.
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@GJOFJ3:

Sure is. Which is why it seems strange to me when i'm asked to prove that god doesn't exist
GJOFJ361-69, M
@MetalGreymon: I can't show you where He is and I don't expect you to show me where he aint.
Cinderella46-50, F
It's personal I don't have to prove anything to anyone except myself
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@Cinderella:

ok
hippyjoe195561-69, M
Neither. Both are faith based theories that can not be recreated.
hippyjoe195561-69, M
@MetalGreymon: Ah but you see most on this site are atheists offering a pro evolution view point. It is then incumbent on them to provide proof.
newjaninev256-60, F
@hippyjoe1955: What does evolution have to do with this?

1. There's no proof that gods exist (otherwise we'd all be deists)

2. there's no proof that gods don't exist (they might be lurking around a mountain-top somewhere)

3. In any case, there's no compelling necessity to even make the postulation in the first place. besides which, it explains nothing, and tries to merely explain everything away.

4. Therefore, I have no gods.

No claim, so no burden of proof.

In what way is evolution germane to that?
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955:

Ah but you see, that argument holds merit only in a thread wherein evolution is being espoused.
That is not the case here. Here, in this thread, you have agreed that "god exists" is a positive argument that must therefor be proven by the advocate.

Even proving evolution does not disprove god. The theist's burden to prove their assertion that god exists has literally nothing to do with an evolutionist's responsibility to prove evolution.

You cannot pretend that you don't have to prove your assertion simply because you feel someone else hasn't proved their unrelated assertion.

Christianity says that we are divorced from God but we see evidence of His existence in the same way that we see evidence for a watchmaker when we see a watch. If you do not have the Holy Spirit in your life then only the intricacy of nature and the claims of the Bible are left for you. If it is not enough then it is not enough for you. :)
newjaninev256-60, F
@sailnude: So, just to be clear... I find a watch, which I know to have been designed by a human, therefore everything else in the universe was designed by a human?

Is that what you're saying?
NewBecky51-55, F
@newjaninev2: I am saying that, if you do not have the experience of knowing the Holy Spirit, then you are left with His Word and the complexity and great design in the universe to point you to the God that made you.
newjaninev256-60, F
@sailnude: Complexity will universally can be reduced to simple, naturally-occurring processes. No design required. No designer required.

With man it is impossible to prove or disprove that there is a God......with man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
saintsong41-45, F
@MetalGreymon: It was truly an amazing time in my life, very awe inspiring, and painfully wonderful....The gospel come to life and understood by those who seen it and heard it....Mysteries revealed, and believed or stolen by the enemy for a false prophet also got to have her say, discrediting my sainthood spreading around half truths and lies about me, I learned to be happy no matter what, and I was excited about the adventure of it all....Honestly I wouldn't want it any other way it was great.....But that's just me.....What about you are you an atheist or a Christian?
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@saintchantal:

Well i'm glad your happy.
I'm an atheist
saintsong41-45, F
@MetalGreymon: Well that's fine by me, I wish you the best.

Why does it matter? Live and let live.
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@Meowsolini:

If you're not interested in the discussion, why enter the thread?
Live and let live馃槈

@MetalGreymon: Because this is my opinion. And when you post on a public forum, you invite ALL opinions.
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@Meowsolini:

And now you have the answer to your own question.馃槒

[c=#7700B2]Theism and atheism are just different metaphors for reality.[/c]
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@CinnamonWorlds:

how is atheism a metaphor
johnny25370-79, M
There is no proof. It's a matter of faith.
saintsong41-45, F
@johnny253: Blessed are those who have not seen yet believed in Jesus Christ.

We will all know at the end of our lives.
We are all going to know one day, or we are going to be non existent, until then just enjoy the choice you've made.
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@puck61:

I find pleasure in debate馃憤
@MetalGreymon: Well, this one has been going on for at least 50,000 years or so. It's started with a group of people grunting really loud and pointing at the sun. They won the first round!
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@puck61:

Good to be part of long tradition
Why must we prove anything regarding religion to one another? Either you believe or you don't. Just believe what you want and carry on.

I tried to teach you how it's done. I totally failed to spark a genuine interest, so I will say no more.
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@Peekaboo:
Oh don't be that way. Don't use specialized terminology and then get upset when i don't understand it
Newandimproved61-69, M
neither. both are goingto believe what they want to believe. there are rapid proponents on both sides.
SW-User
Or why try to convince one another at all?馃
Youni1926-30, F
To the individuals who care
The burden of proof, imo, falls on the shoulders of those proselytizing, knocking on doors, sending missionaries and passing out literature to prove a positive. Not the people who don't believe them.
MetalGreymon36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard:

It does seem that it should fall on the party making the positive claim
