Why are christians so desperate to deny those who became Atheists were ever christians? [Spirituality & Religion]

I used to be a devout christian but, after seriously studying the bible and examining my faith, determined it was all BS. I found the bible to be nothing more than a jumble of myths and superstitions taken from various older belief systems and frequently contradictory. As a result of my studies, I became an Atheist.

Now I find some christians are desperate to deny I was ever a christian. They just can't accept the fact that a christian could ever break away from "the truth" (as they like to call their beliefs) to become an Atheist. The idea is so alien to them they deny it's even possible. They even claim to know what the person experienced better than that person knows. Another claim is that I couldn't have studied the bible "properly" and that I should ask (their) "god" for help. What are they so scared of?

@WindOfAdolf You ought to read some of the posts from the more fanatical christians. They're very loud indeed.

@WindOfAdolf Fine, I have no problem with christians who keep themselve to themselves. I do, however, object to those christians who try to tell me what I experienced or how to think.

Take a look at some of the posts and replies from @Speedyman, @GodSpeed63 and @Lincoln98 (that last one fills the "I have something to say" group with christian propaganda).

@WindOfAdolf
Why would I be afraid my God is all merciful.
That's what you like to think but it's not supported by the bible. Just keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. It doesn't matter that it's not true.

@WindOfAdolf I read the entire thing when I was a christian. If you seriously believe the judeo-christian god, as described therein, is all merciful I suggest you read it for yourself.

@WindOfAdolf
Apparently you can read but you cannot understand the verbiage.
I can say exactly the same about you. One very important point that appears to have completely escaped you is that the bible can be interpreted to mean almost anything you want it to mean. The point of "bible study" classes is to get the student to interpret it the way the teacher wants it interpreted. That's why the are so many different versions of christianity. That's why you need to approach it with an open mind.

"Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him." 1 Samuel 16:14

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." Isaiah 45:7

Now, some people might interpret those verses in a way that make "god" look good. That's how "bible study" works, to deceive the student.
For the Lord is good
In this case whose definition of the word 'good'? If it's god's (it's supposed to be his word) then of course everything he does is good. Murder, pillage, rape, if god says do it, it must be good, right?

@WindOfAdolf Wow you really know those popular Bible verses... congrats.
How many versus do you know from other religions? Why "Christianity"?

Cause your Momma said so?

Which one Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregational, Charismatic Church, Mega- church, TV church, Agnostic, Mormon, 7th day Adventists.. how do you know which style of worship God prefers?
Cause cant find in the Bible where Jesus said which one to go to...

So there is the start of a Whole mess of problems... with BLIND FAITH.

worshiping GOD comforts you, give you hope, great ... dont judge others on their beliefs

Its pathetic how many so called "Christians" rush to "sit in judgement" of others when all they have to do is focus on themselves... give comfort shelter food And COMPASSION when needed lead by example as Jesus taught.

Somehow this message always seems to be forgotten...

I've met thousands of people, I don't like a couple of dozen of them but I wouldn't describe any as enemies.
