A child Is definitely a gift to parents life. I agree we think what we do is for a child but it is mutual as a child’s LIFE gives a solid purpose to adults, provides direction for adults. Should be the basis of a solid foundation in a growth of many areas. When done well, it becomes a measure of success and evidence of love. If done poorly promotes irresponsibility lack of independence or contribution to society. We think what we do is for children, and it is... but it is a celebration. A constant celebration of what we hope and live for theirs and our future.
Enjoy traditions. They are meant to bring people together for a good purpose!

It's for the child, the people come to celebrate for the child. That was my experience with my kids anyhow

@SW-User that's how I hope it is for my daughter. It's to celebrate her birth and commit to raising her in a particular way until she can make her own choices

Like funerals, it's for the families. The baby or the dead have no idea what's going on.

Christening means that God accepts you as your child, no matter what the biological parents may think.

It's just another cash-cow, a way for the church to extract money from people.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@suzie1960 people aren't deceived they choose of their own free will.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@TheWildEcho Really? I know some people think it's a legal requirement, just as some think a christian priest must conduct a funeral service. Some people choose, of their own free will, to send money to an African Princess to help her escape from her abusive family.

@suzie1960 that's what I approve of, people giving money of their own free will
Just like people should be free to choose whether they have their children christened or not.
There are much more serious things to be concerned about you know!
