After domestication, they might not be tough enough to survive on their own. I seriously doubt that sedimentary ones EVER could, and some igneous can definitely fracture. I guess metamorphic ones might be ok...just maybe...but the look in their stone-y faces as you try to leave them...just too hard...

He got so big I just couldn't look after him anymore. I left him and quickly rode off..still hurts to this day
