I Am Always Thinking and Thinking
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those that care about the welfare of all people, and those that care about the welfare of specific people (ie their family, their friends, people of their religion/culture, etc).
The world is never going to be a good place so long as people who only care about specific people exist. However this is a large part of the population who is not going away anytime soon, and these folks do not care if the world is a good place for everyone, they only care that it is a good place for specific people, and they see nothing wrong with that. In fact they would not care if even everyone else in the world was worse off in order for the specific people they find important to have a good life.
I am definitely in the camp of caring for welfare of all people but I understand the mentality of the other folks. It's rooted in evolution and biology, care for your own. But I think as humans capable of higher thinking we should strive to move beyond these primitive instincts for the betterment of the human race as a whole.
