I Support Concealed Carry

In principle. In theory. It always made sense to me. But I never thought of doing it myself until recently. I got the permit because without it I had to leave my gun in plain sight on the dashboard or passenger seat on the way to go target shooting (my vehicle has no trunk and a very tiny glove compartment).

Then one night I got a phone call asking me for help to defuse a situation involving a couple of shady characters. As it went, they left when I told them to and without much of a fuss. But it made me wonder some: what if one of them had pulled a weapon? The police had also been called and they showed up about 15 minutes after I did. What could I have done?

So, after a lot of soul searching I bought a pistol small enough to conceal (both of my target pistols are much too large).

It has not left my safe yet, but I will take it to the range very soon to get familiar with it. And then. Not always but sometimes. It will not be a theory anymore.

And the more I think about it the more it seems to me that more people should do the same.

I carry whenever I can as a civic duty. Years ago, police officers discharged their guns in the line of duty an average of once every 29 years. I do not know what the current stats are. I don't expect I will ever have to draw my pistol, but, it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Who knows. The life I save might even be my own.
