I Have a Loved One That Is Dying

My grandmother is dying.

I have a healthy relationship with death especially when it's an elderly person. She is 93, has had a great life and is surrounded by family who loves and cares for her.... can you really ask for much more?

The Dr's are saying it's any day now and she's been deteriorating for over a week, she's just not the same. I feel it is close. I'm not sad about her impending death but more sad about her declining cognitive function. I wonder if she's okay or stuck in her head unable to communicate her needs. She was always so cheery and happy even as her abilities began to decline like walking, etc... but now it's just feels vacant. I wonder if she even knew I was there, holding her hand and reading bible scriptures. Something I don't believe in, but something that I know has given her great comfort.

I am blessed. My son was able to get to the age of 23 with a grandmother and a great grandmother who were very active in his life. Most people don't get a grand-parent that long if at all so it's been a beautiful ride.

She has been my Angel; figuratively and literally. 馃槆

I will miss you very much grandma.

@aniave You can find the old hymn on YouTube. Also Wikipedia and most old-fashioned hymnals including Baptist and Pentecostal ones. It might get a smile out of her if you sing about her home country. I don't know how to post links here unfortunately.

@purplepen @Far away the noise and strife upon my ear is falling, then I know the sins of life beset on every hand. Doubt and fear and things of earth in vain to me are calling...none of these shall move me from Beulah Land.

I'm living on the mountain underneath a cloudless sky! I'n drinking from the fountain that never shall run dry! oh, yes, I'm feasting on the manna from a bountiful supply, for I am dwelling in Beulah Land.
