I Have Controlling Parents
For years they refused to let me get any kind of portable electronic device. "Because it shuts you out from the world and that's not good for you." That actually did just the opposite for me. It led me to become less close with all my friends, and less close with my parents.
They finally gave in to years of complaining and let me get an iPod touch for my 16th birthday. And of course they put parental controls on it. I don't have safari and I'm supposed to use some browser where my dad can monitor all my internet history. My parents also monitor the music I listen to. They have to look up the lyrics to a song before I can listen to it. And even if it has clean lyrics sometimes they still won't let me listen to it because "it's way too heavy and it sounds like it's from hell." My email account is also monitored. All addresses are blocked from emailing me except a few which my dad puts on a list which only he has access to. And I'm pretty sure he's able to read all my emails.
In response to all that I downloaded a different browser, downloaded a free music app, and use an alternate gmail account for almost all my email. It's nice to be able to get around the rules, but sometimes I get really anxious about how mad they would be if they found out about that stuff and all their other rules that I'm constantly breaking.
The one rule I can't get around is that they turn my wifi off from midnight till five a.m. It's really annoying.
