Should half the House and Senate seats be reserved for women?

Since we'll never actually get equal representation in slow steps, Why not?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F Best Comment
So...No elections?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@Stopmakingsense I cant tell if you're trolling or serious.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
@FreeSpirit1 fighting democracy requires constant ignorance. Sometimes you gotta just be against knowing and ask yesterday's nothing.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@Stopmakingsense keep up the good fight against democracy then, I dont think you are convincing anyone though 🤭

Just what we need. More quotas for people that don't deserve the job.

Run for office and win, if you want the seat.

But no quotas for race, creed, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

There are plenty of idiots in Congress. Don't let your nutty ideas stop you from running.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Stopmakingsense Quotas exist
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Mindful But they got elected
Mindful · 56-60, F
@HoraceGreenley I think now that there is much less public and private degradation of women who would like to be in positions of power, or work in fields that men do, more women will get elected. There was a time when women wanting to be president was laughable in this country.
Mindful · 56-60, F
If so also for a true representation of race and economy.

You come from — what’s based on US standard income different tax brackets — based on 5 to 10 year tax return— must be native born American- Then you’re likely to be a representative by the people, for the people.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Mindful So you want to reserve seats for less qualified people
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
I actually think you are selling women short here. And you assume that women WANT the kind of life that politics offers. If I wanted power in the system as it exists I would be in the lobbyists..
Mindful · 56-60, F
@whowasthatmaskedman selling women short by allocating opportunity? Some women want power just like men. They just never imagined it for themselves. Point is they are no different from men. It would open the door to female and male lobbyists. Sadly distribute the greed, And distribute ... the crookedness. Be rather educational. Sadly. I would hope it would educate and humanize the need. Not greed.my MLK dream for socio-economic diversity
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Mindful And those women should go out and get that power, playing a male designed system by mens rules. Feel free. I would like to see a system based from the ground up more on the kind of collaborative Approach many woman excell at. Thats a complete reworking of how elections work, candidates are selected and Washington and that states cooperate and function. Maybe something designed to actually lead the nation and function for the people. With more Women in charge, I suspect housing, health and education would be a far higher prioroty than they are currently.
Mindful · 56-60, F
Although I’d like to see more women participating in government, I believe integrity is more important that ANY gender@whowasthatmaskedman
Women are not blocked from running for and winning elections, havent been for quite some time. If dim wits like AOC can get elected .. there is no more excuse that other, more capable women can't as well.
Just because they’re women? How about “the right person for the job?” If your reasoning is based solely on their sex then you are sexist,
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Women have messed up education already. You can't have government too.
Mindful · 56-60, F
Are you , have you ever been part of the government system? The part that DECIDES what the country can do or not do? Do you think it’s been made up of women?@HoraceGreenley
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Mindful Did you not read what I wrote?

Women are not the majority in government.

Women have taken control of primary education.
TexChik · F
Then the people cant make a fair choice and half the elections would be sexist .
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I would hesitate on that only because if women started taking 60 and 70% as a result, men would then demand they also get a 50% minimum. That and it could eliminate some people with desirable policy.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@ViciDraco That is the problem with any kind of allocation system. It cuts both ways.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@ViciDraco eliminate? Desireable policy? Or make them work a little harder? How about equal ?
